Diggin' In!

Today was a day of exploration. My third graders had fun dissecting a fish. I didn't get to sit in and watch them cut a fish open with a ulu...but I did get to see their lovely faces in the pictures that were taken.

How many of you would feel comfortable giving a nine year a sharp instrument in a classroom? It's amazing to see what skills these kids have developed through their time observing their family members when they subsistence gather.

 

And then Bertha took the dissected fish and cooked it for the kids! Kinda neat to take a science activity and eat the results:)
