Oh My...

Have I got my work cut out for me.

This has been quite the week and I am already starting to lose my voice. Thankfully I know now that this is not b/c I am sick, but only that I am back in teacher mode and therefore talking a whole lot more than normal.

I don't think I have ever had to play the tough yet caring teacher the first day of school. It is my hope (and the hope of many others) that if I am consistent with the behaviors, those behaviors will change. Still, I am itching for just a small break from being the bad cop. Let's hope that that is in the near future.

On a positive note, as I sit here at 9 p.m. on a school night in my classroom, I can't help but admire the view while correcting and lesson planning. It is nice to see the ocean a little roughed up as there are some winds rolling through. I have yet to hear the wind at night, but I think that Dawne, my roommate, has been introduced to the sound of the not so silent wind.

And with a pretty view, I keep plugging along with two classes worth of work. I am looking forward to a time where I have a good handle on how to prep for both classes without finding myself in the classroom so late at night. But until then, I will do what I need to do to stay afloat and help others do the same, as teaching on the tundra requires quit a bit of out of the box thinking.

And sometimes that out of the box thinking leaves one with a smile on one's face when a student seems to be ok with the way the classroom is being run, so to speak:)
